V.E Day 75th
Anniversary Celebrations

Village Celebrations - Friday 8th May 3pm - 7pm

VEDay75 in May 2020 is a three-day national and international event that is set to be one of the biggest commemorations of the end of WW2 in Europe. Thousands of people will be taking part from 8th to 10th May 2020 in a range of inclusive events and Otterbourne Parish Council is delighted to be sponsoring an event on Friday 8th May 2020.  We will be hosting the event between 3pm and 7pm at the Village Hall with the focus on those of our current villagers who were alive on 8th May 1945 (our VE Day Veterans) and on our children so that we can bring the generations together in Remembrance of the dark days of WW2 and in Thanksgiving for a bright and peaceful future.
The celebrations are free to attend and will kick off with an afternoon tea party with musical accompaniment from Otterbourne Brass and entertainment by children from Otterbourne C.E. Primary School Choir and Maypole Dancers before we move indoors for some themed entertainment provided by Otterbourne Theatre Company and Otterbourne Choir Club; the celebrations will conclude with tributes, prayers and the ringing out of church bells across the Nation at 7pm.  A cash bar will be available throughout the event.
Numbers for the tea party and associated activity are capped at 200 (the maximum that we can safely seat and accommodate within the village hall) and we now need you to let us know that you wish to attend.  We regret that we will be unable to cater for specific dietary requirements/allergies and attendees must take responsibility for their own needs in this respect.

Please complete the online form (below) by Friday 3 April 2020.

We need your help

We will clearly need assistance to make the day a success, be it setting up/taking down the tables and chairs, serving food or transporting our V.E. Day Veterans to/from the event; if you feel able to help out in any way, please complete online form (see below) indicating that you can help.   We want to identify as many of our current villagers as we possibly can who were alive on 8th May 1945 and to encourage them to attend the event; if you were alive on 8th May 1945 or you know someone who was, again, please complete the online form (see below) with the detail.  This is a great opportunity for our community to come together, to have fun and to celebrate; it is hoped that many of you will adopt “themed dress” for the day so start rooting through the local charity shops for 1940s era clothing now and mark the date on your calendars.   This will undoubtedly be the last occasion where we are able to celebrate together with those who lived through such a defining time; lets do our utmost to make it a memorable occasion.

Please complete the form below if you will be attending the celebrations or can provide assistance at the event
